The NASCAR Sprint Cup series returns to Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, August 15. Michigan is known for its wide turns and it’s a two mile oval, allowing three cars to easily race side-by-side. At Michigan, the racing is incredibly fast. The cars can easily be going 205 miles per hour, when going into a corner.
This year, the August 15th race will be the 2nd time NASCAR has traveled to Michigan. Kasey Kahne finished 2nd and Denny Hamlin picked up the win, in June. How to go fast and conserve gas at the same time is one of the most important things to figure out at Michigan. Cautions are sometimes rare, since the track at Michigan is so wide, so the races often come down to gas mileage.
Picking up five top tens in nine starts, Denny Hamlin always runs well at Michigan. Having compiled six top fives in 13 starts, Kasey Kahne always runs well at Michigan, too. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Kevin Harvick, has only managed six top tens in 19 starts and he has been the top of the points standings all year.
The only guarantee is that the racing will be fast and exciting, when tuning into a race at Michigan. Michigan is one of the fastest tracks on the entire circuit and NASCAR is intense. The track typically provides support great racing because of its width. To see who takes home checkered flag, tune in on August 15.
